About Us

Charlton County High School is located in Folkston, Georgia near the Okefenokee Swamp. The band program at Charlton County has been recognized as one of the finest rural band programs around for years. Under the direction of directors such as Ed Barr, John Lairsey, and current director Curtis Hersey, the band has continuously produced superior level ensembles and musicians. The bands at Charlton have consistently received superior ratings at GMEA LGPE and marching events. The band program has a long history of producing numerous South Georgia Region Band and GMEA All-State musicians. The band curriculum offers symphonic band, jazz band, music theory, and the Band of Pride marching band. The various ensembles at Charlton County have performed in Washington DC, Gatlinburg, Tennessee, the Walt Disney World Christmas Parade, and Atlanta, Georgia.
